The establishment of a “Steering Group on the measure of the progress of Italian society” initiated at the National Council of Economics and Labour (CNEL). The Group is made by representatives of social parties and the civil society. Statistic indicators are particularly important for designing and evaluating policies aimed at promoting progress of society. The selection of these indicators is a crucial step because “what we measure” affects “what we do”. If the tools used are not correct or not able to catch all the features of the object of the survey, they can drive to take ineffective or wrong decisions.
