The study by the Bank of Italy “The quality of public services in Italy” assesses the quality and efficiency of public services, taking into account from the justice to the school, from health to local public services and infrastructure. In general, emerge serious delays of Italy compared to the other countries and large regional disparities, measured in terms of both quality and efficiency, regardless the level of government providing the service. The delays appear to be linked, as appropriate, to the organizational models adopted, the allocation of resources, the incentives for operators, the behavior of citizens, the regulation. Furthermore, it argues that the need remains to expand the information available in order to improve the understanding of problems and the effectiveness of interventions.
