ISTAT provisional data indicate that in March the unemployment rate has climbed, reaching 8.3% up a tenth of a percentage point compared to February, when he scored a slight decline. On an annual basis there is, however, a decrease of 0.2%. Also increased the rate of youth unemployment which stands at 28.6%. Compared to February, the youth unemployment rate rises by 0.3% and on an annual basis by 1.3%. In March, the employed are 22,977,000 units, an increase of 0.5% (+111 thousand) compared to February. In comparison with the previous year, employment grew of 0.6% (+141 thousand units). The increase in the month is due to the male, and, more importantly, to the female component. The employment rate is equal to 57.1%, an increase of 0.3 percentage points over both February and March 2010. The number of unemployed persons (equal to 2,071,000) grew by 2% compared to February (up 40 thousand units). The increase affects both the male and the female component. On an annual basis the number of unemployed decreased by 2.5% (-53 thousand units). After the slight decline in February, the unemployment rate goes up a tenth of a point and equals 8.3%. The male employment, increased by 0.3% (+39 thousand units) in February, but decreased by 0.8% on an annual basis. Among women it is increasing by 0.8% (+72 thousand units) over the previous month and 2.8% in twelve months. The male employment rate increased by 0.2 percentage point last month and was down by 0.5 points year on year. The female rate recorded an increase of 0.3 percentage points on a cyclical basis and by 1.1 percentage points compared to March 2010. The male unemployment increased by 2.1% (+23 thousand units) compared to the previous month, and 1.3% in twelve months. The number of unemployed women increased by 1.8% compared to February (up 17 thousand units), but decreased by 6.6% on an annual basis. The female unemployment rate increases over the previous month (+0.1 percentage points), but it marks a sharp drop (-0.8 points) in terms of trend. The male unemployment rate increased by 0.1 percentage points both compared to February and on an annual basis.
