According to Istat, the inflation rate in April rose to 2.6% from 2.5% in March. Istat confirmed preliminary estimates that indicate a price increase on a monthly basis by 0.5%. The annual rate is the highest since November 2008, when inflation stood at 2.7%. The short-term rate is the highest since July 2008. The growth trend continues since December 2010. The acceleration in April was affected primarily by tensions on prices for services relating to transport as well as by the dynamics of regulated energy assets (adjustment of tariffs of electricity and gas).
