With final results from the last harvest 2010-2011 Italy became the largest producer of wine in the world pulling out the record previously held by France. This was stated by Coldiretti based on the data of the EU Commission that detect a production of 49.6 million hectoliters in Italy, higher – although far – than 46.2 million hectoliters of France, out of a total Community production of 157.2 million hectoliters, down by 3.7%.
