Istat noted a decline in producer prices in May. The figure has decreased by 0.1% on a monthly basis, which translates into an increase trend of 4.5% compared to +5.2% recorded in April. The prices of products sold on the domestic market recorded a decrease of 0.2% compared to April 2011 and an increase of 4.8% compared to May 2010. Excluding the energy sector there is no cyclical variation and a trend increase of 4.2%. Goods sold on the foreign market has increased by 0.2% on the previous month (+0.1% for the euro area and +0.3% for non-euro area) and 3.7% compared to May 2010 (+4.2% for the euro area and +3.3% for non-euro area). The main contribution to the trend growth of the index of goods sold on the domestic market comes from the component relating to intermediate products (+2.2 percentage points). Even for the foreign market the most important contributions, both for the euro area is for non-euro area, come from the intermediate goods (+2.3 and +1.4 percentage points respectively).The sector of economic activity for which the trend growth of prices is more marked is the manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products, with an increase of 13% on the domestic market and 22.4% on the foreign market.
