Start of the traditional “ritual” of seasonal sales. Every family – according to estimates by the Confcommercio Studies Department – will spend, on average, for the purchase of clothing and shoes on sale, 274 euro for a total value of approximately 4.1 billion euro (about 12% of total annual sales of clothing and footwear). Renato Borghi, Vice President Confcommercio and President of Federation of Fashion Italy declares: “The important news this year is the unique starting date of the summer sales on July 2nd, that is the first Saturday of the month throughout the country. Certainly the situation of consumption in general, but particularly for clothing, remains difficult. We do not expect, therefore, a particularly vibrant sales season, but we expect a substantially stability compared to last year’s revenues. The pessimistic estimates diffused these days by the usual prophets of doom seem to us quite frankly unreliable.”
