According to Istat, in the first quarter 2011 growth trend in the number of employees is strengthened and is equal to 0.5% (116,000 units). The result is due solely to the development of female employment. Continuous decline of the Italian occupation (-160,000 units), compared with a slight increase in the employment rate (from 56.1% to 56.2%). Foreign occupation is significantly increased (+276,000 units), but its employment rate is still down compared to the same period of 2010, from 62.8% to 62.4%. In comparison to the recent past, the reduction of workers with permanent contracts is much smaller (-0.1% equal to -19,000 units), while continues to grow the number of employees with forward contracts (+4.1%, i.e. 84,000 units), mostly in industry excluding construction. For the first time since 2008, the number of unemployed was a reduction on a trend basis (-5.2% or -118,000 units). The unemployment rate is equal to 8, 6% (was 9.1% in the first quarter of 2010), compared with a year earlier, the indicator decreased for men (-0.2 percentage points) and, to a lesser extent large for women (-0.9 points). The unemployment rate of young people between 15 and 24 years increased from 28.8% in the first quarter of 2010 to 29.6%, with a peak of 46.1% for women in the South. Growing inactive population. The inactivity rate rose to 37.8%, two tenths of a point more than a year earlier.
