According to Istat, in August the index of consumer confidence dropped to 100.3 from 103.7 in July.
The decline was widespread on all components, but is particularly marked for the current economic climate, where the index decreased from 74.9 to 70.0.
Reliance on the personal situation falls from 118.8 to 116.2; while the current outlook from 116.5 to 112.8. The overall index for the short-term expectations marks a small decrease, from 87.8 to 87.5. Worsen markedly, in particular, judgments about the economic situation of the country and the durable goods market. Worsen though with less intensity, present and future evaluations on savings as well as expectations on the evolution of the country and the labor market. Improve slightly, however, the assessments on personal circumstances and the family budget. Judgments about the dynamics of consumer prices remain stable compared to July, and forecasts about future inflation registered a decline compared to the previous month. Confidence worsens in all areas and the deterioration is particularly intense in the Northeast.
