According to Istat data, for the first time since 1995 the birth rate in Italy is decreasing due to the economic downturn and the decline of both Italian parents born (25 thousand less in two years), while at least one foreign parent born continue to increase, albeit at a slower pace. The average age of mothers increases, as well as the number of births outside marriage. The average number of children per woman registered a setback in the last two years: women living in Italy have on average 1.41 children, with values of 1.31 children for the Italian citizens and 2.23 for the foreigners.
