On October 20, 2011, under the patronage of the President of the Republic, will be held for the first time the Italian Day of Statistics. In continuity with the World Day of statistics, organized by the UN in 2010, the event aims to raise the importance of the statistical function in our country. Among the objectives of the celebration, there are the increase of the visibility of the statistical system and the strengthening of public confidence in the quantitative information, as well as the promotion of the work of statisticians. The initiatives planned for October 20 (Aula Magna Istat – Via C. Balbo 14 Rome from 11:00 to 17:30) will see the awarding of competitions and contests addressed to young people and the world of statistics, and the organization of the workshop “Open Official Statistical Data”, which will compare international experts on the cultural, technical and organizational aspects of Open Data and its relations with the world of official statistics. The work will continue on October 21 at La Sapienza University from 9:30 to 15:00, with the Constitution of the Permanent Group of Young Statisticians followed by the presentation of numerous works on statistics, its history and its future.
