According to Istat, in September 2011, the seasonally adjusted index of retail sales (current value that incorporates both the dynamics of the quantities and prices) registered a decline of 0.4% compared to August 2011. In the average of the quarter July-September 2011 the index fell by 0.6% over the previous three months.
In comparison with August 2011, sales of food products decreased by 0.2% and non-food products by 0.4%.
Compared to September 2010, the raw index of total sales marked a drop of 1.6%. Sales of food increased by 0.7%, while non-food products down by 2.5%. The dynamics of sales by distribution way, in comparison with the month of September 2010, recorded a slight increase (+0.2%) for the large distribution and a significant decrease (-2.8%) for companies operating in small surfaces.
In the first nine months of 2011 the raw index decreased by 0.7%, compared to the same period of 2010. Sales of food products registered a rise of 0.1% and non-food products decreased by 1.2%.
