According to provisional data released by ISTAT, in October 2011 there were 22,913,000 people employed, a level essentially unchanged from September. The result is a synthesis of a drop in the growth of male and female. In comparison with the previous year, employment increases of 0.2% (53 thousand units). The employment rate is equal to 56.9%, stable in comparison and economic growth in trend terms by 0.1 percentage points. The number of unemployed amounted to 2.134 million, increasing by 2.5% compared to September (53,000 units). On an annual basis there is an increase of 1.8% (37 thousand units). The enlargement of the unemployment affects only men. The unemployment rate stood at 8.5%, an increase of 0.2 percentage points in conjuncture terms and 0.1 points over the previous year. The youth unemployment rate is equal to 29.2%, down 0.1 percentage points over September. Inactive people aged 15 to 64 years decreased by 0.4% (-60 thousand units) compared to the previous month. The inactivity rate is placed at 37.8%, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points in both conjuncture terms and on an annual basis.
