According l ' “Consumption Outlook” of Confcommercio, the share of families who increased consumption in the first half of 2011 grew (54,3% compared to 48,3% in the second half of 2010) even if the increase was mainly due to spending on petrol and parking. Over 50% of the sample used all their available income to cover consumption and almost 20% spent more; of how much they earned (in the latter case, 65% had to resort to their savings); only 7% set aside resources to face important expenses such as purchasing a house (investing in real estate is confirmed as the best possible use of one's savings).
As for the future, a widespread attitude of prudence prevails with almost 66% of the sample expecting to keep expenses stable over the next six months; the number of uncertain people increases (from 13,7% in January to 21,8% in June), the number of pessimists decreases (from 45,1% to 37,5%) and the share of optimists remains substantially stable (from 41,3% % to 40,7%).
